Today we are sharing a VERY SIMPLE DIY project that can completely change the look of your home! Our DIY picture ledges were under $20 to make and they are consistently a topic of conversation with guests! When we built our house I knew I wanted tall vaulted ceilings and a fireplace as a center of the living room. I did not realize I was going to have two very large, awkward blank wall spaces when it was finished! Our living room is fairly narrow so I knew I needed something thin and that did not take up any floor space. Here is what we were working with!

I know... I know the clarity of the picture stinks and Lincoln is making an appearance haha! In my defense, I was not planning on starting a blog when I snapped this picture! As you can see... it was a lot of blank, gray space that I needed to fill! My cousin had these gorgeous picture ledge shelves from Pottery Barn that I was obsessed with, however they did not come in the color I wanted for our home. Our cabinets and flooring are a dark walnut color and I could only find black, white, or espresso. That was too dark for my vision! Soooo... I recruited Brandon to make my vision come to life! Luckily, he was pleasantly surprised by how simple the shelves were going to be to build.
Materials:
1x3 boards: 2 per shelf (Number of shelves and length vary from space to space)
1x2 board: 1 per shelf
Table Saw
Varathane Dark Walnut Stain *linked below*
Wood screws
Wood filler
Sandpaper or sponge
Disclaimer: I LOVE the industrial farmhouse style. So for me personally, I do not spend too much time making projects like this look perfect when it comes to sanding and covering screw holes. I like the imperfections! See picture below!

Steps:
Cut boards to appropriate length.
Sand any rough edges.
Stain to desired color.
Screw together both 1x3 boards together in an "L" shape. You can use wood glue and clamps if you would like some extra support!
Screw the 1x2 board on the front of the shelf creating a "U" shape. **See photo above!
Use a level and drywall anchors or wood screws to install on your wall!
It really is easy as that! Here is our finished project and I could not be happier!
