Meet The Huskeys

Welcome to The Huskey Homestead! We are so excited to start this journey into the foreign (to us) world of blogging and home design. We are Amber and Brandon and we live in a small suburb of St. Louis, Missouri. We are an elementary teacher and precision machinist by day... and the zoo keepers of two wild animals (aka Lincoln, 4 and Jax, 3) at night!

Brandon and I moved into our home in December of 2017. We both grew up in a town about 10 minutes from our current home. The area was growing and we loved that it had a small town feel. We built our house after quickly selling our first home. Our first home was right under 1000 sq ft, two bedrooms, one bathroom, and no basement! I loved our little brick home... it was cozy and had a big yard. We began to start our family and the bricks were busting at the seems. We were quickly pushed out of the brick home after two disastrous floods in under two years. I was pregnant during both floods.... with two different children... we are crazy we know (haha)! The second time I had to move my entire house into a moving truck pregnant, I threw in the towel and quickly wanted to sell. A man literally knocked on our door and offered to buy our house for a business opportunity and I was packing before Brandon had finished getting the mans contact information!

Flash forward (six months later)...we moved into our new home! We knew this would not likely be our FOREVER home, so we wanted to be smart financially. We really tried to keep our budget minimal, only utilizing big structural upgrades. My DIY wheels were turning the entire process of building! I have the creative/design nitch being an elementary teacher and Brandon is very handy. When he's not creating things out of metal, he is working on anyone and everyone's vehicles...BIG CAR GUY. However, he never claimed to be a carpenter! Many of our DIY projects in the beginning consisted of hours and hours of watching tutorials, reading blogs, and research before we began!
